Non troverei le parole per descrivere il dono che Fabrizio de Andre’ e' stato per la musica, per la poesia e per gli italiani, e personalmente per me.

Ricordo ancora le lacrime alla notizia della morte di questo gigante della musica l’11 gennaio 2001. Ero una giovane studentessa universitaria ma conoscevo tutte le sue canzoni a memoria da quando ero una ragazzina. Ho avuto la fortuna di averlo visto in concerto a 14 anni ma purtroppo mi manchera’ sempre l’occasione di sentire ancora dal vivo la sua magica voce,e questa e’ una mancanza che condivido con milioni di italiani.

Fabrizio de’ Andre’ e’ nato a Genova, una citta’ di porto dove si incrociano le vite di persone da posti e storie diverse. E’ stato un poeta, e le sue parole in musica hanno avuto il potere di cogliere l’essenza dell’esistenza e dei sentimenti umani universali.

Conosciuto come “Faber, il poeta degli ultimi”, faceva soggetto delle sue canzoni la vita degli sfortunati, poveri, emarginati, dai ladri e dalle prostitute dei vicoli della sua citta’ fino ad agli indiani d’America oltre oceano, cantandone le ingiustizie, i dolori, le debolezze ma soprattutto l’umanita’, che e’ per tutti un insieme di bene e di male.

Conoscere l’italiano permette oltre a tante cose di lasciarsi coinvolgere dalla bellezza e profondita’ di una canzone di de Andre’

Difficile sceglierne una preferita, ma certo questa e’ una iconica e bellissima, cantata dalla grandissima interprete italiana Mina. Ne La canzone di Marinella, De Andre' ha preso spunto dalla vicenda di cronaca di una prostituta di 16 anni trovata uccisa in un fosso, regalandone un'altra dolcissima vita, in cui lei e un re si amano fino alla tragica morte di lei scivolata in un fiume.

It's not easy to find the words to describe what a gift Fabrizio de Andre’ was to the music, the poetry, the Italians, and personally to me.

I still remember being in tears when I heard the news of the death of this musical giant on January 11, 1999. I was a young student at University, but I knew all his songs by heart since I was a little girl. I was lucky enough to see him in concert when I was 14, but unfortunately I will always miss the opportunity to hear his magical voice live again, and this is a loss that I share with millions of Italians.

Fabrizio de' Andre' was born in Genoa, a portual city where lives of people from different places and backgrounds cross path. He was a poet, and his words and music had the power to capture the essence of existence and universal human feelings.

Known as “Faber, the poet of the ones left behind”, he made the lives of the unfortunate, the poor, and the marginalized the subject of his songs, from the criminals and prostitutes in the narrow streets of his city to the Native Americans across the ocean, singing about their injustices, their pains, their weaknesses, their flaws but above all their humanity, which is a mixture of good and bad for everyone.

Knowing Italian allows you, among many other things, to immerse in the beauty of a song of De Andre'.

It's difficult to choose a favorite, but this one is certainly iconic and beautiful, performed in the video below by the great Italian singer Mina. In La canzone di Marinella, De Andre' was inspired by the real story of a 16-year-old prostitute found murdered in a ditch, and he decided to give her another life with his music, where she and a king love each other with tenderness until her tragic death when she slips into a river and draw.
