La vita e' bella

Roberto Benigni is an absolute genius and one of the greatest and beloved Italian stand up comedian, actor, screenwriter and film director. He was born in Tuscany in 1952 and “ Life is beautiful”(1997) is one of his most cherished movies famous in Italy and around the world. In 1999 it won three awards at the Academy Awards: Best actor ( Benigni), Best Music ( music by Nicola Piovani), Best Foreign Language Film.

This comedy drama tells the story of Guido, Dora and little Giosue’,who live in the city of Arezzo, in Tuscany in the 1940s.

When the Nazi started controlling the center-North of Italy during 1943-1945, they, as many, are deported to a concentration camp because they are Jewish.

In the movie Guido is creating a new reality for his little son, pretending that this terrible situation is nothing but a game where the guards play the bad guys and the son can gain points and win the game by being strong, not crying nor complaining about starving or missing mom. Final prize is a big tank.

I don't think any of the movies that I watched in my life got my such strong emotions, such a powerful punch in the stomach for the pain and the tragedy unfolding and laughter at his comedy scenes with still tears of sadness in my eyes.

I would definitely recommend to anyone to watch this incredible gem of a film, a masterpiece that reminds us that even in the deepest depths of pain and tragedy you can still find hope because life is beautiful and always worth living.

This is the scene where the Nazi soldiers explain the rules of the camp and Guido ( Benigni) steps in to pretend that the are explaining the rules of the camp to little Giosue'.

Roberto Benigni e' un genio assoluto e un comico, attore, regista tra i piu' amati e importanti in Italia. E' nato in Toscana nel 1952 e "La vita e' bella" del 1997 e' uno dei suoi film piu' famosi sia in Italia che nel mondo. Nel 1999 ha vinto tre premi Oscar: Miglior attore (Benigni), Miglior colonna sonora ( Nicola Piovani), Miglior Film in Lingua straniera.

Questa tragicommedia ci racconta la storia di Guido, Dora e il piccolo Giosue’, che vivono nella citta' toscana negli anni '40.

Quando i Nazisti iniziano a controllare l'Italia centro-settentrionale durnate il 1943-1945, Guido e la sua famiglia sono deportati come molti altri nel campi di concentramento perche' ebrei. Nel film Guido cerca di creare una nuova realta'per il suo piccolo bambino, facendo finta che la terribile situazione che stanno vivendo non sia altro che un gioco dove i soldati nazisti sono i cattivi e il bambino puo' accumulare punti e vincere rimanendo forte, non piangendo, non lamentandosi di aver fame o di voler vedere la mamma. Il premio finale e' un gigante carroarmato.

Non credo che nessun film mi abbia mai causato tante emozioni insieme, la tragedia raccontata e' un vero e proprio pugno nello stomaco, e allo stesso tempo si ride per le scene comiche ancora con gli occhi bagnati per la tristezza delle scene piu' dolorose.

Consiglio vivamente a tutti di guardare questo capolavoro che ci ricorda che anche nel piu' profondo abisso di disperazione e dolore si puo' sempre trovare la speranza perche' la vita e' sempre bella e val la pena di viverla.

Questa e' la scena dove i soldati nazisti spiegano le regole del campo ai prigionieri e Guido (Benigni) si offre di "tradurle" facendo finta che siano le regole del gioco che lui e Giosue' devono seguire.
